Yelmer snatches third place at Zolder

05-09-2011

It was bloody hot last Saturday in Belgium. Just like in Holland. As a result the GT’s fell by the wayside in large numbers. Among those the second Veka Ferrari in which Shirley van der Lof went through some scary moments when the engine caught fire. Fortunately she got out of the car pretty quick, limiting the damage to just a nasty smell of smoke in her race suit. Meanwhile Yelmer was battling it out for third with the KR K Mercedes SLS GT3, both cars frequently swapping places. Eventually the Mercedes crew snatched third place, a few hours later followed by the Belgium Audi R8 LMS of WRacing. But both competitors were not in contention for the Dutch Super Car Challenge. Their sole goal was victory in the 24-hours race. After the 6 hour mark the Veka Ferrari motored on while most DSC competitors put their cars in the garages, their job done. Unfortunately the Veka Ferrari was soon to follow. And once again with a terminal engine failure. “It’s a pity because we all looked forward to the challenge of 24 hours of motorsport. But our main target was the Dutch Super Car Challenge standings and we finished third after three and after six hours. In doing so Jan Versluis grabbed a lot of points for the championship”, Yelmer commented.

Results Dutch Super Car Challenge classification after 6 hours
