Yelmer Monday on TV Gelderland

27-10-2011

This coming Monday Yelmer will feature in the tv program ‘Sparren’ on the TV Gelderland channel. Last June the reporters crew paid a visit to the Superleague Formula races at the TT-circuit of Assen, where they recorded all ins and outs of Yelmer on and off the track. Monday’s report will also cast a light on Yelmer’s next event, the FIA GT1 Finals in Argentina.

In the weekend of 5 and 6 November the FIA GT1 Championship will held its final round at the San Luis race track in Argentina. Yelmer will board on one of the 2 Corvettes C6R the Belgium Selleslagh Racing Team has entered. Well known Dutch drivers such as Mike Hezemans, Ho-Pin Tung and Nicky Catsburg have driven this season for SRT, with a fine third place at Silverstone as one of the season’s highlights. Yelmer however will share the red and yellow Corvette, sponsored by the Chinese trade bank Exim, with Francesco Pastorelli, the brother of the more famous Nicky Pastorelli. For Yelmer it will be his first encounter with the mighty 650 HP Corvette C6R in GT1 trim. But he is familiar with racing GT-cars as he drove one of the Veka Racing Ferrari’s 458 GT2 in the Dutch Super Car Challenge round at Zolder. There he finished third after 6 hours of ferocious racing. “I am delighted with this chance to race a GT1 car. It must be an ultimate experience. And after such a disappointing Superleague Formula season it is fantastic to race in such a competitive racing class. Thanks to my sponsor Veka and of course the team’s partners”.

At San Luis Yelmer will take on famous names in the world of sports car racing, such as Michael Krumm, Markus Winkelhock, David Brabham, Peter Drumbeck, Enrique Bernoldi, Peter Kox and Karl Wendlinger. By the way, in one of today’s national newspapers was suggested that Yelmer will do another rookie Formula 1 test for Force India at the racetrack of Abu Dhabi, like last year. “Well, we’re speaking with them but that news is rather premature”, he acknowledges.
